Cuero Senior and Gobbler quarterback, Tyler Arndt, committed to play for Texas State University Monday evening. A three year starter for Cuero, Arndt led the Gobblers to a 36-5 record as a three year starter.
Tyler took over the Gobbler offense as a sophomore, and led the Gobblers to a 12 – 3 record, and the first of three straight State semi-final appearances. In his first campaign, Arndt threw for nearly 2,500 yards and 23 touchdowns. The yards and touchdowns came with only three interceptions; all coming in the semi-final loss to China Spring. Arndt would not stay down long, and in his junior season led the Gobblers to an 11-2 record. The 2008 season saw Arndt once again throw for nearly 2,500 yards and 25 touchdowns, along with rushing for 4 TD’s. Arndt also handled the punting duties, and punted for a nearly 50 yard average on the season. After the season, the accolades began to role in, as Arndt was named 3rd team All-State Quarterback, 1st team All-State punter, and also garnered the first of back-to-back District 28-MVP honors. This past season, the Gobblers were sure to make another run at state with Arndt in his senior season. He did not disappoint, throwing for 2,400 yards and 27 touchdowns, along with completing 63% of his passes. For the third straight year Arndt led the Gobblers to a perfect 13-0 record before falling to the Gilmer Buckeyes in the final minutes of the state semi-final 42-36. Once again Arndt was named to the All-State team and was awarded his second straight District 28 MVP honors.
Arndt will join the Texas State Bobcats who are coming off of a 7-4 season. The Bobcats were 5-2 in the Southland Conference, just one game behind Stephen F. Austin and McNeese State. Arndt will join, former Gobbler Corey Scott on the roster. Scott plays wide receiver for the Bobcats.
