Murder charges follow shooting

 Four people were arrested here late Friday in connection with a murder of a 26-year-old Cuero man that night.
Cuero Police Department reports Isaac Gamez was shot and killed following a fight in west Cuero.
A call to the dispatcher’s office at about 9 p.m. Friday indicated there had been a shooting in the 200 block of Togo Street. Cuero EMS and police responded to the call and attempted to revive Gamez with CPR. However, the victim was pronounced dead shortly after he was taken to Cuero Community Hospital.

Gov. Perry announces new plant

Governor Rick Perry was here last week to announce that SIPCO has chosen Cuero for its new manufacturing plant. The plant will result in a $6 million capital investment project here and will create 100 new jobs. The announcement was made at DeWitt County Courthouse Thursday. (Record photo)
 A standing room only crowd was on hand Thursday to hear Texas Governor Rick Perry announce a new industry has chosen Cuero for a manufacturing plant. When completed it will create 100 new jobs in the area and possibly more in the future.
The new manufacturing facility is SIPCO Mechanical Linkage Solutions. The company produces high-precision gear products for motion control, power transmission equipment and hydraulic systems. It specializes in custom engineered products and high-volume production.
The announcement was made in the County Courtroom of DeWitt County Courthouse with representatives of state and local governmental entities attending.

SIPCO produces gears

Precision gear products will soon be manufactured in Cuero according to an announcement made here last week by SIPCO Mechanical Linkage Solutions CEO Raul Martinez.
The company’s products are used in many industries, including energy (wind, solar, and oilfield), robotics, packaging, printing, energy and material handling.
Celebrating their 25th anniversary, Martinez said, “We started our gearbox distribution business in 1985 with the vision of having some day our own manufacturing facilities.”

Show honors Lovel Blain

 Lovel Blain received the Honorary Contributor award at Friday’s 61st Annual Cuero Livestock Show. This was the 16th time the award has been presented.
In making the presentation, Cuero Livestock Show President Leo Heinemann said Blain has touched the lives of many young people. His dedication, consistency, work ethic, and sincere honesty have benefited many young people, both in the show and our community.”
Blain was born in Yorktown in 1946. He raised animals in FFA as a young man, has always been a horse lover, and worked on several ranches growing up. After graduation he moved to Corpus

Livestock Show tops $298,000

 Cuero Livestock Show completed its 61st annual awards show and auction Friday night with buyers contributing almost $300,000 to DeWitt County youngsters.
There were 136 projects and 13 pens of Commercial Heifers sold at this year’s auction and buyers spent $298,635 topping last year by over $23,000. The total included $255,085 spent on the projects and $43,550 on the heifer auction.
This year’s auction compares to last year’s totals that saw $226,887 spent on 127 animal projects and another $48,500 on 43 head in the Commercial Heifer auction.
Helping boost this year’s auction success was another $13,810 from individuals

Black History Celebration
The African American Mirage Heritage Association is requesting support for the Historic Black History Celebration to be held at Quinn Chapel Missionary Methodist Church, Reverend Lester Adams, Pastor, 112 Threlkeld St., Cuero, on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. starting with a historic march. Valentine dinner, dance
The Charlie Prause Band of Houston will provide music for dancing following a gourmet buffet dinner on Saturday, Feb. 13, at the VFW Hall hosted by the DeWitt County Historical Commission. Call off the Texas Rangers, the Elvis lamp has returned! The Elvis lamp will make its comeback at the 2010 Cuero Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture Membership Social and Awards Banquet on Thursday, Jan. 28, beginning at 6 p.m. at St. Michael's Parish Hall.
