Police arrest 17 in nighttime sweep

Cuero Police Department identified 33 people in a night drug bust last week that resulted in the arrest of 17 with more expected with time.
Police Chief Glenn Mutchler said a yearlong investigation resulted in 33 warrants and 14 indictments in an operation named “Sun Down”. The criminal activity related to use, sale and distribution of illegal narcotics.
This is the fourth project of this type for the Cuero Police in the past four years.
Starting around 8 p.m. last Tuesday, members of Cuero Police Department's Tactical Team and Patrol Division began serving warrants and making arrests. By 9 p.m. the teams had made their first arrest and the work continued until about 4:30 a.m.
Mutchler said the arrests also provided evidence that led to other drug related and weapons charges.
Operation Sun Down resulted in the seizure of a least five vehicles.
