Elvis lamp shines on Gonzales

To climax an evening of fun and fund-raising at the 15th Annual Cuero Chamber of Commerce Auction Saturday, this year's recipient of the infamous Elvis lamp was named. It is Gerard Gonzales, owner of Standard Printing.

Chosen for his support and contributions to the community and Cuero Chamber of Commerce, Gonzales will keep and display the Elvis lamp until next year's auction.

Gonzales is a native of Cuero graduating from St. Michael's Catholic School and Cuero High School. He received college degree in commercial art from San Jacinth College in Pasadena in 1975. Working as a commercial artist, he worked a short time in Florida before returning to Texas to work at Tex-Tan in Yoakum and at Cuero Record in Cuero. Today he and wife, Debbie, own and operate Standard Printing.

His business was the first chosen by Cuero Chamber of Commerce for its Business of the Year award in 2006.

Gonzales, 54, is a member of Gobbler Booster Club and has been a member of Cuero Chamber of Commerce since 1985. He has served as a Cuero School Board trustee for 20 years and is also a member of Cuero Police Department Interview Committee, director for Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, Cuero Development Corporation Loan Advisory Committee and Cuero-DeWitt County Community Development Corporation.
