Eco. Dev. summit in Victoria

“Opening the Door to Your Community's Future ... an Uncommon Economic Development Summit" on September 11 at the Victoria College Student Center featuring a special lunch keynote address by Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples and welcome by Senator Glenn Hegar.

The De-Go-La Resource Conservation and Development will be one of several hosts for the innovative community development summit. Other hosts include Calhoun County EDC, Cuero Development Corp., Goliad Economic Development, TexCEED, Victoria College, Victoria EDC, Workforce Solutions Golden Crescent and Yoakum EDC.

Jerry Pearce, Coordinator of the De-Go-La RC&D said the program is designed to assist elected officials, city and county leaders, chamber officers and directors, economic and community developers, community boards, higher education and interested citizens in being at the forefront of the next wave of thinking about their communities' future.

Attendees will learn about the Four Pillars of Hometown Competitiveness, which is a blueprint for community builders in mobilizing leaders, capturing wealth, energizing entrepreneurs and retaining/attracting young families.

Attendees will also learn how to create community foundations through wealth transfer from Vicki Luther, Co-Director, Heartland Center for Leadership Development, who has more than 25 years experience in designing programs to increase citizen participation in government and helping others improve their skills as decision-makers in both the public and private sectors.

Community leaders will also learn about bootstrap entrepreneurship and how to employ the bootstrap model in their community from Bijoy Goswami, co-founder and CEO of Aviri.
