The Cuero Lady Gobblers competed in the Victoria Memorial Tournament over the weekend. After winning the St. Joseph tournament last weekend, hopes were high for repeat success.

During pool play on Thursday, the Lady Gobblers lost to Palacios 26-24. The Lady Gobblers then faced Sacred Heart and defeated the squad from Halletsville 25-18, 25-18.

Saturday the Lady Gobblers opened tournament play and defeated district rival Yoakum 25-19, 25-11. A good sign for the district season to come. Cuero then played the Halletsville Lady Brahmas and much like their meeting earlier in the year, the Lady Gobblers fell in straight sets 25-20, 25-18.

After losing to Halletsville, the Lady Gobblers were sent into the Third Place match to face Port Lavaca.

The Lady Gobblers turned it on with 13 assists by Katie Shellenbarger, 5 kills apiece from Kelsey Washington and Sha'Neal Mayfield, 4 aces from Laura Hahn, and 9 digs from Hannah Morrow. The Lady Gobblers defeated Port Lavaca in straight sets 25-16, 25-20; to take home third place in the Memorial Tournament.

This was the Lady Gobblers second top three finish in as many weeks.
