Wildcats scrimmage Badgers

Wednesday, August 27, 2008 8:22 AM CDT

Coach Kerry Huddleston led the Yorktown Wildcats in a scrimmage against the Karnes City Badgers from district 28 2A last Thursday evening in Yorktown.

The scrimmage was controlled with both teams running two sets of 15 plays, followed by one set of 10 plays, and ended with one live quarter of football.

The Wildcats first team forced two touchdowns on the Badgers during the first 15 plays. While the defense shut the Badgers first team offense down allowing no scores. Coach Huddleston believes his players are working hard and are ready for the upcoming season.

After the Wildcats first team soundly defeated the Badgers first team, the second teams took the field and ended the scrimmage scoreless.

Next week, the Yorktown Wildcats open up regular season play against the defending Division IV TAPPS state champions, the Sacred Heart Indians from Halletsville. The Wildcats begin their campaign on the road, and after posting an 11-2 season and winning the TAPPS Division IV State Championship last season, the Indians will return 6/6 starters.

“Coach Henke will have his team ready,” Huddleston said of Sacred Heart. “They will be well coached, play hard, and will be a tough challenge for us in our first game.”
