Children's Rainbow Room

After holding a successful fundraiser earlier this summer, members of Arneckeville 4-H presented a check for $850 to The Rainbow Room in Cuero. Housed in the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services offices, The Rainbow Room is an emergency resource center created to help abused or neglected children.

Rainbow Rooms are located in communities throughout Texas. They are available to Child Protective Services caseworkers in their work protecting children from abuse and neglect.

Stocked with such items as diapers, formula, clothing, lice shampoo, and other necessities, the Rainbow Room serving DeWitt County children relies on donations.

When CPS caseworkers must remove a child from their home, many times the basic needs of the family in crisis are not met and caseworkers typically cannot provide the necessities from their personal resources.

The Rainbow Room here provides one toy, one stuffed animal, two changes of clothes, diapers (if necessary), a blanket, hygiene products, and a duffel bag.

It is the motto of Rainbow Rooms, “Abused and neglected children do not deserve abused and neglected things.”

The non-profit volunteer driven organization, Greater Texas Community Partners, helps organize and support Rainbow Rooms. That organization states the top 10 items needed in Rainbow Rooms are: diapers, formula, new children's clothing, car seats, personal hygiene items, household cleaning supplies, school supplies, toys/children's books, and blankets.
