The 20th annual Otto Metting Reunion was held on June 15 at the Yorktown Fire Station auditorium with the Leona Metting Wehe family hosting the event. The theme, "Grandma's Dishes" as china, was the appropriate focus for reunion’s 20th anniversary.
Each cousin in attendance signed a china cup cutout and placed it on their respective family's placemat which provided the backdrop for the family pictures. Everyone also signed an old china platter for the "Grand Prize" drawing which was won by Shannon Franke.
Tables were decorated with flower-filled cups and saucers that had belonged to Grandma Katie Metting which she had obtained as free gifts from boxes of coffee, cereal, oatmeal, and flour in the 1940's.
A short meeting was held after the delicious potluck meal.
Leona Wehe at 95 years of age was the oldest member present while Sydney Enterline, age 2, was the youngest. Marian and Roy Hoefling who will celebrate 50 years of marriage in August were the longest married couple present. New additions to the family this year were Kody Landon Reitz, Allison Anne Reitz, and Emerson Binz - all great-grandchildren of the late Ernest and Mildred Metting. The marriage of Rachel Torvik and Michael Voeller was also noted.
On display were several pieces of depression glass that have been collected over the years which everyone had a chance to admire and reminisce about.
After a game of matching the "themes" from past reunions with the year in which it took place, door prizes were awarded and group photos were taken. A good time was had by all as those attending remembered and gave thanks to God for all the many years together.
The 2014 reunion will be hosted by the Werner Metting family.
