Yorktown City Council met on Monday, Sept 23 and adopted a new property tax rate of .68561 cents per $100 valuation, which is a 38.9 percent increase over the previous year’s effective tax rate.
The reason behind the tax increase is the $2.8 million project to have all the streets in Yorktown resurfaced or seal coated.
The council also approved a new budget for the fiscal year beginning Oct 1.
