Record open Labor DayBack to top

The Cuero Record office will be open Monday, Sept. 1. Labor Day deadlines will remain at 10 a.m. However to accomodate the holiday, items submitted after the deadline will have to be included in the Sept. 10 edition.


Wildflower Association SocialBack to top

Feeling Lucky? Then you'll want to attend the Wednesday, September 3 Dewitt County Wildflower Association's Social. The first 25 guests to attend the event that starts at 11 a.m. at 610 Gonzales will receive a Texas Lottery Scratch Off.  We're hoping one or more of those tickets will “pay off” not only in winning a few dollars but also in learning about the exciting year that the group has planned. This kick-off event of the season features a bounty of refreshments and an opportunity for past members to meet and socialize with potential new members. Dance class registrationBack to top

Cuero Hermann Sons Dance Class will hold registration for all who have not registered on Aug. 28, at 5:30 p.m. at the dance studio. The dance studio is located in the back of Millie's on Main at 115 E. Main St. Enter through front door on Main St. This registration is for anyone that is between the ages of 3-17 an would like to do Ballet, Tap, and Tumbling. Classes will start on Sept. 10 and class times will be mailed to those that have already registered. 82nd Annual JamaicaBack to top

82nd Annual Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Jamaica will be held on Sunday, Aug. 31, at the Parish Hall grounds, located at 207 Graham. Ribbon cutting and queen coronation will take place after 8 a.m. Mass. A Mexican dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $6.50 a plate. Live music, refreshments, auction, raffle, and many more activities will take place throughout the day. All are invited to attend.

Cuero Country OpryBack to top

Cuero Country Opry, sponsored by Pilot Club of Cuero, will be held each month at the VFW Hall. The next performance will be September 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dinner is catered by Werner's and will be served at 5:30 p.m. The show will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and this includes dinner and the show. Presale tickets may be purchased at Reuss Pharmacy, Prosperity Bank, Ful-O-Pep, Cuero Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, as well as members of the Pilot Club of Cuero. Free transportation to and from the show will be provided to those that are not able to drive at night, as Trinity Family Church has donated the use of their van. City to observe Labor DayBack to top

In observance of Labor Day, City Administration and City Hall will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, and reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The garbage pick-up schedule for the week of Sept. 1 will be as follows: Monday and Thursday routes will be Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday and Friday routes will be picked up Wednesday and Friday. Citizen's Collection Center will be closed Saturday, Sept. 1 for Labor Day and reopen Tuesday, Sept. 2. Commercial accounts with three or more scheduled pick-ups will remain the same for the week.


Party honors SaenzBack to top

A party will be held in honor of Mayor Randy Saenz on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Cuero VFW Hall. Dinner will be served from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Live music will be provided by DJ Tony and Grupo Bueno. This event is free and the public is invited to attend.


Substitute teach meetingBack to top

Cuero ISD will hold a Substitute Teacher Orientation on Aug. 27, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the DeWitt Lavaca Special Education COOP building located at 960 E. Broadway. All persons interested in substituting for the 2008-2009 school year need to attend.

Descendants of Heinrich and Katharine Landgrebe will hold their 35th annual reunion on Sunday, Aug. 31, in Weesatche Community Center. Lunch will be served at noon. Holy Cross FestivalBack to top

Holy Cross Church in Yorktown will have its annual Festival on Sunday, Sept. 14. Mass begins at 9:30 a.m. Festivities start at 10:30 a.m. at Yorktown Community Hall with entertainment by Yorktown's DJ Val Mungia. Dinner begins at 11 a.m. Cost for adults is $7 a person and children under 12 are $3. Beginning at noon there will be bingo, children's games, and cake walk, as well as a country store. Live auction begins at 12:30 p.m. Raffle drawings will take place at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Texas Department of Public Safety Drivers License offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of Labor Day. All offices will resume their normal schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 2.


Rules for athletic eventsBack to top

During all Cuero ISD athletic events, students 6th grade and below are expected to be in the company of a parent, relative, or designated responsible adult at all times. Students and children that fall into this age group will not be admitted to any event unless in the company of a responsible adult. They must be seated in the stands with their sponsor during the event. Junior High and High School students must be seated in the appropriate student section during the game.

Cuero High School graduates that had their pictures taken receiving their diplomas on graduation night may pick up their photographs at the CISD Business Office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.


Heirloom Stitchers' tripBack to top

Heirloom Stitchers Guild will sponsor a bus trip to view Austin's “Legacy of Quilts” quilt show on Friday, Sept. 26. Available seats on the bus will be sold to non-members for $31, which includes transportation and ticket to the show. The bus will leave the St. Mark's Lutheran Church parking lot, located at 400 N. Esplanade, at 8 a.m. and will return by 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend should make checks payable to Heirloom Stitchers Guild and mail them to Louise Jacob, 10719 FM 236, Victoria, TX 77905, by Sept. 1.

Cuero Gobbler season football tickets are on sale at Cuero ISD Administration Office. Tickets will be sold Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Season tickets not purchased by previous season ticket holders will be available to the public through August 22. After Aug. 25 reserved seat tickets will be sold on a per game basis only.

Gobbler football senior citizen passes may be picked up at Cuero ISD Administration office Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Senior citizen passes from preceding years will be accepted at football games this season. If you have a senior citizen football pass, you do not need to pick up a new pass.


Flood exhibitBack to top

Cuero Heritage Museum will be presenting an exhibit commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the "Flood of 1998" to be unveiled in October. The museum is looking for non-photo items that can be loaned for the display. Call the Chamber office at 275-2112 for more information.
