Garbage holiday schedule
Cuero City Hall and Administration Offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 31, and Friday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s holidays. The sanitation collection schedule will be: Monday and Tuesday’s routes will remain the same; commercial routes will be picked up Wednesday along with Thursday and Fridays routes added. The Citizens Collection Center will be closed Saturday, Jan. 2. After the start of the new year, the Citizen Collection Center days of operation will be Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday.
Biggest Loser 3
Register now for the Wellness Center’s Biggest Loser 3 competition. Weigh-ins will be held January 1-8, 2010. Kickoff is 1/7/10 at 7 p.m. The event will last for 8 weeks and will have lots of motivators to keep you on track. Pick up your information packet and register at the Cuero Wellness & Rejuvenation Center. For more information call 275-WELL (9355).

Texas Department of Public Safety Drivers License offices will be closed Friday, Jan. 1. Drivers License offices will be open on Monday, Jan. 4. Troopers and communications personnel will be on duty throughout this holiday period for emergencies and to help make it a safe holiday.
TPA meeting Monday
Travelers Protective Association will meet at Bahnhoff Cafe on Monday, January 4th at 7:30 a.m. All members are urged to attend.
Men’s Breakfast Group
Arneckeville Men's Breakfast Group will resume its normal schedule, Tues., Jan. 5. All men of the community are invited to come and enjoy breakfast, lighted-hearted fellowship, and devotion. A full breakfast will be served at 6:30 a.m. - allowing for those who need to be - on their way by 7:30. This group meets the first and third Tuesday each month at Zion Lutheran Church basement in Arneckeville.
Ministers meet weekly
Pastors and church leaders are invited to join Cuero Area Ministerial Alliance which meets each Monday at Cuero Assembly of God at 8 a.m. for an interdenominational time of prayer and fellowship.
Diabetic Support Group
Diabetic Support Group meets the second Thursday of each month at First United Methodist Church located at 211 N. Clinton from 10 to 11.
Vietnam Vet names needed
Anyone serving in the military during the Vietnam crisis between the years of 1962-1975 regardless of station, please notify Rev. John Jackson at 361-275-1207 or email him at Jacksoncuero @yahoo.com or the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce (361)564-2661 to have name inscribed on the DeWitt County Vietnam Memorial to be constructed in Yorktown.

Vietnam Vets are selling bricks for $50 each to be installed at the Vietnam Memorial which is to be constructed along SH 72 across from Aunt Di’s in Yorktown. Bricks will be inscribed. Contact Rev. John Jackson at 361-275-1207 or any Vietnam Vet for more information or to purchase a brick.

Yoakum TAAF adult men's flag football league will begin on January 9. A league meeting will take place at Fat Albert's BBQ & Icehouse in Yoakum on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. Teams interested in joining the league should call Mike McCracken at 361-655-2909 or 361-293-7278. Games will take place in the Yoakum City Park on Saturday's.

Yoakum Heritage Museum’s 22nd annual Christmas Tree Forest continues through Jan. 4 with over 65 uniquely decorated trees by local and area businesses, schools, clubs, and organizations. The theme is “Dreaming of a White Christmas.” Located at 312 Simpson Street, it is open Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1 to 4 and Fridays from 10 to 4. Closed Christmas Day, for more information or to set a tour call 361-293-7022.

Vietnam Veterans are selling raffle tickets for a Golden Boy .22 rifle LR at $5.00 each to raise money for the Vietnam Memorial to be built along SH 72 across from Aunt Di’s in Yorktown. Tickets may be purchased from any Vietnam Vet. The drawing for the rifle will be Tuesday, Feb. 9.
Volunteers needed here
Caring volunteers are needed for rewarding work as advocates for nursing home residents. Ombudsmen visit nursing homes to promote quality care and to protect resident’s rights. Free initial and ongoing training is provided and no prior experience is required. Volunteers are needed in DeWitt county. If you are that special person who enjoys helping others, please contact Barbara Zimmerman, Elder Rights Coordinator at the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission Area Agency on Aging at (361) 578-1587.

Anyone knowing of an individual killed in action in Vietnam, call the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce (361)564-2661 with the person’s name, date of birth, date killed in action so their name may be inscribed on a headstone at the DeWitt County Vietnam Memorial to be constructed in Yorktown.
Taste of Trail date set
Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum board of directors has set April 17, 2010, as the date for “Taste of the Trail,” the biennial fundraiser for the museum. “Taste of the Trail” will be held at the Robert Oliver Ranch, and will be a fun evening of food, libations, auctions, and entertainment to celebrate the area’s ranching and cowboy heritage. Invitations will be sent and ticketing information made available in early March, 2010. For more information concerning “Taste of the Trail” or the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, please call 277-2866 or visit our web site at tasteofthetrail.com.

There will be a New Year’s Eve dance at the Yorktown Community Hall, Thursday, Dec. 31. Music will be by Leroy Rybak’s Swinging Orchestra from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. Blackeyed peas and cornbread will be served at midnight. Door prizes will be given. Admission is $10.00 per person.

For those interested in Census 2010 jobs, testing will be Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Cuero Community Hospital at 5:30 p.m. There will also be training on Monday, Jan. 18, at Cuero Community Hospital at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Applicants may also call toll free 1-866-861-2010 to schedule a testing date.
