Lady Gobblers add three wins, move to 3-0 in district play

The 2008-2009 season for the Lady Gobblers was certainly one to remember, a perfect 10-0 disrict record in route to the District Championship.
After mixed results in the first portion of the season, the Lady Gobblers have another District Championship on their minds. Cuero is 3-1 in 2010 including three straight district wins.
Cuero opened up district play Friday, January 8, on the road against the then #18 ranked Yoakum Lady Bulldogs. The game was a thriller and came down to the wire, with the Lady Gobblers escaping with the upset win 54-53.

Building on the momentum they gathered in their win over Yoakum, the Lady Gobblers hit the road once again on January 12, to take on the Palacios Lady Sharks. After the thrilling finish in Yoakum, the Lady Gobblers and their fans enjoyed the sixteen point victory they picked up against the Sharks. The final score saw the Lady Gobblers out in front 49-33, to push their district record to 2-0.

This past Friday, the Lady Gobblers remained in Cuero to take on Goliad. The Tigerettes started off the game with hot shooting, putting the Lady Gobblers down 18-9 after one quarter. By halftime, however, the Lady Gobblers adjusted to Goliad’s zone defense and began making more shots to take a seven point lead into halftime.
The halftime adjustments by Coach Fryer and Coach Riojas-Fryer worked to perfection, as the Lady Gobblers stiffened the defense and the offense began hitting on all cylinders. By the end of the third quarter, it was clear that the Lady Gobblers would remain perfect in district play. Final score found the Lady Gobblers on top 61-31.
