Elvis is back
Call off the Texas Rangers, the Elvis lamp has returned! The Elvis lamp will make its comeback at the 2010 Cuero Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture Membership Social and Awards Banquet on Thursday, Jan. 28, beginning at 6 p.m. at St. Michael's Parish Hall. Elvis will be awarded to yet another deserving person in our community that evening, so don't miss out on seeing this in person. Tickets are $10 per person and available at the Chamber office or from any Chamber Director.

Rotary Pancake Supper
The 59th Annual Cuero Rotary Club Pancake Supper will be held Thursday, Jan. 21, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Cuero High School Cafeteria. Tickets will be $6.00 and plates to go are available. Children under 3 will be served free.

Little League registration
Cuero Little League will be having Little League registration for children age 5 thru 15 years of age on Saturday, Jan. 23rd from 10 am to 1 pm. Registration fees are $80.00. Please bring three proofs of residency and birth certificates.

Chamber celebrating 100th
Cuero Chamber of Commerce will turn 100 years old in 2010. The Chamber wants you to help celebrate this momentous occasion by attending the 100th Annual Cuero Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture Membership Social and Awards Presentation on Thursday, Jan. 28 at St. Michael's Parish Hall located at 104 N. McLeod. The Membership Social is from 6-8 p.m. with the Awards Presentation at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and are now available from any Chamber Director or at the Chamber of Commerce office. This celebration will be a night of surprises, laughter, and wonderful memories. Call the Chamber at 361 275-2112 for more information.

Eastern Star pancakes
Order of the Eastern Star will host a Pancake Supper Wednesday, Jan. 27, at the Masonic Lodge from 5 - 8 p.m. Dine in or plates to go are available for a $6.00 donation.  The meal will be all you can eat.

Photos to benefit Choir
Cuero High School Choir is going to New York. They have been raising monies for the last eight months; and, this is their last big push before the trip. Several students are in need and the choir would appreciate the public’s help. A professional photographer will be available on Sunday, Jan. 24th. The sitting fee will be $5 per person. The choir will keep all of that fee toward their trip. There is a very generous senior package, with props and drapes.  Cap and gown is provided. Large groups are welcome as well as pets. Some costuming will be available for children but feel free to bring favorite toys and keepsakes.  Hair and makeup will be provided. Sodalis groundbreaking Thurs.
Sodalis Elder Living Communities will host a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site of Sodalis Cuero Assisted Living. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, on the corner of Industrial Boulevard, just past the Ashley Furniture Warehouse. Members of the community are invited to attend.

Mt. Bethel musical
A birthday musical for ‘Da-Queen of Quartet’ Sister Theresa Owens, will be held Saturday, Jan. 23 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The church is located at 400 Grant Street in Cuero. All proceeds will benefit the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. Special guests include Gifted - Baton Rouge, Louisiana Shield of Faith; Rivercity Christianetts, and Webster Chapel AME Choir from Gonzales. He Ain’t Heavy; He’s My Brother. Christmas scenes half-price
December Events Committee of Cuero Development Corp. is offering citizens the opportunity to purchase scenes or make monetary donations to Christmas in the Park. New scenes are available for half-price through February. For information, call 361-275-2125 or 361-275-8178.

Cuero Opry Thursday
On the third Thursday of each month Cuero Pilot Club hosts the Cuero Country Opry at the VFW hall, Highway 183 North. The next performance is Thursday, Jan. 21. Dinner (catered by Werner’s of Shiner) is served at 5:30; the show follows at 7:00. Tickets are $10.00 and may be purchased in advance from any Pilot Club member or Reuss Pharmacy. Tickets for just the show are $5.00 at the door. Takeout dinners are also available from Werner’s for $6.00. For more information call Kay at 275-6334.

CAMAL House hours
CAMAL House will be open to distribute food on Thursday, Jan. 24th, from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Relay seeks musicians
Relay for Life Entertainment committee would like to extend an invitation to everyone who would like to participate in this year’s Relay on April 23. Taste of Trail date set
Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum board of directors has set April 17 as the date for “Taste of the Trail,” the biennial fundraiser for the museum. “Taste of the Trail” will be held at the Robert Oliver Ranch, and will be a fun evening of food, libations, auctions, and entertainment to celebrate the area’s ranching and cowboy heritage. Invitations will be sent and ticketing information made available in early March. City to observe holiday
In observance of President’s Day, City Hall and City Administration Offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 15, and reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The sanitation schedule will be: Monday routes will run on Tuesday; Tuesday routes will run on Wednesday along with commercial routes; Thursday and Friday routes will remain the same. The Citizens Collection Center will be closed Monday, Feb. 15, and will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Bell choir volunteers
First United Methodist Church of Cuero needs volunteers for its bell choir. Church membership is not a requirement. Practice is every Wednesday at 5:30 pm with one performance per month during Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. For information, call Kimberley at the church office (275-5272) or Pam Anderson at 275-0026.

Head Start workshop
Advocates for Children and Families, Inc. Head Start Child Development Program is offering a workshop for the parents of Head Start children who will start kindergarten in August. Blood drive at CCH
Cuero Community Hospital will be hosting a blood drive in the Education Classroom on Thursday, Jan. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Anyone who is 16 years old weighing 120 pounds (with parental consent form), or at least 17 years old and weighing 110 pounds, and in good general health can donate blood.  Photo identification is required before beginning the donation process. All presenting donors in January receive a long sleeve T-Shirt, and will be entered to win a $3,000 shopping spree at Bjorn’s. Ministers meet weekly
Pastors and church leaders are invited to join Cuero Area Ministerial Alliance which meets each Monday at Cuero Assembly of God at 8 a.m. for an interdenominational time of prayer and fellowship.

Diabetic Support Group
Diabetic Support Group meets the second Thursday of each month at First United Methodist Church located at 211 N. Clinton from 10 to 11.

Vietnam Vet names needed
Anyone serving in the military during the Vietnam crisis between the years of 1962-1975 regardless of station, please notify Rev. John Jackson at 361-275-1207 or email him at Jacksoncuero@yahoo.com or the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce (361)564-2661 to have name inscribed on the DeWitt County Vietnam Memorial to be constructed in Yorktown.

Vietnam Vets are selling bricks for $50 each to be installed at the Vietnam Memorial which is to be constructed along SH 72 across from Aunt Di’s in Yorktown. Bricks will be inscribed. Contact Rev. John Jackson at 361-275-1207 or any Vietnam Vet for more information or to purchase a brick.

Vets holding a raffle
Vietnam Veterans are selling raffle tickets for a Golden Boy .22 rifle LR at $5.00 each to raise money for the Vietnam Memorial to be built along SH 72 across from Aunt Di’s in Yorktown. Tickets may be purchased from any Vietnam Vet. The drawing for the rifle will be Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Volunteers needed here
Caring volunteers are needed for rewarding work as advocates for nursing home residents. Ombudsmen visit nursing homes to promote quality care and to protect resident’s rights. Free initial and ongoing training is provided and no prior experience is required. Volunteers are needed in DeWitt county. If you are that special person who enjoys helping others, please contact Barbara Zimmerman, Elder Rights Coordinator at the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission Area Agency on Aging at (361) 578-1587.

Vietnam Vets memorial
Anyone knowing of an individual killed in action in Vietnam, call the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce (361)564-2661 with the person’s name, date of birth, date killed in action so their name may be inscribed on a headstone at the DeWitt County Vietnam Memorial to be constructed in Yorktown.

Westhoff FBC 100th
First Baptist Church of Westhoff will celebrate its 100th Anniversary on Feb. 14, beginning with breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Special music by The Goldens and other local artists as well as speakers.
