The Cuero Gobblers picked up their first district win of the season last week against Palacios, following a close defeat at the hands of the Yoakum Bulldogs.
Scoring was few and far between in the first half of the Gobblers and Bulldogs contest last Tuesday night. The Gobblers only managed eleven points in the first half, but thanks to good defense, the Bulldogs only managed to put twelve on the board.
The Gobblers were able to hold William Markert to just twelve points (averaging 20+), but it would not be enough as the Bulldogs took the victory 33 - 21.
“We felt that if we kept them to under 40, we had a good chance to win,” said Coach Toot. “But our poor shooting hurt us.”
Scoring Line: D’Colby Green 9, Monte Green 5, Mason Blaschke 3, Aaron Bell 2, Austin Lind 2.
Friday night, the Gobblers travelled to Palacios to take on the Sharks and came away with their first district victory of the season.
The Gobblers got out to an early 9 - 5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back taking the contest 52 - 36.
Mason Blaschke recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
“We are still learning and needed this win to boost our confidence.” Said Coach Toot.
Scoring Line: Monte Green 14, Mason Blaschke 11, Austin Lind 8, D’Colby Green 6, Lamar Holman 5, Jonathan Ybarra 4, Zach Zook 4.
